Valorant Review

By HIDEY_RUNNYpigs

My friend forced me into playing Valorant with him (he’s officially addicted). The first thing I had to do was delete my favorite game: WarThunder because I only had 10 gb of space on my computer at that time. Please appreciate my sacrifice.

Valorant was released by Riot Games on the 2nd of June, 2020 and still has 5 million active players, making it one of the most popular shooting games. Valorant is a 5v5 shooter game where you try and combine your abilities with gunplay to win matches.

My first impressions of Valorant was that the visual style looked very interesting. With its poppy colours and funky character designs, Valorant looked nothing like typical competitive shooters like Counter-Strike, and felt nicer to play overall. Unlike Counter-Strike where every player is given the same loadout, Valorant currently has 24 playable agents with different abilities to suit a range of playstyles. These abilities include smokes, stuns, mollies and movement boosts, which are just some of many in the game.

Like many other competitive games, Valorant also has ranks. There are currently 9 ranks: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal, and Radiant. With the exception of Radiant, all of the ranks have three tiers, the higher the tier, the better the rank. You rank up by winning matches, even if you did very well but lost you will lose RR. RR is the rank rating, it determines what rank you will be in.

The most important part of Valorant is its agents. At the time of writing this article, there are 24  agents that can be played. Each agent has unique abilities that help them in each match. At the start of each match you will be able to buy abilities along with guns, each ability will cost a certain amount of credits that you will earn for actions in each match.

Overall Valorant is a very fun game as it adds a fresh twist to a simple shooter game and can be even more fun if you play with a friend. There is a very steep learning curve but nevertheless I would recommend it to anyone who is bored of simple shooter games and wants something a bit different.
