Call of Duty is a series of games starting in 2003 but not hitting big success until Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007. A game that, while being self-aware in parts, for example, the time where you slowly die of a nuclear blast, started as a series that would eventually become the sadistic, violent dreams of a sad majority of Americans filled with simmering contempt for anyone who isn’t ¾ white and ¼ bald eagle. These horrendous piles of rubbish climaxed in 2013 with the frankly laughable COD ghosts.
I first noticed this when playing the new Modern Warfare (COD’s mainline series). There is a certain mission where you go into Mexico unprovoked, blow up a village to find a drug dealer, and the civilians, rightly furious about this, go and complain about you. The player gets the button prompt “Hold L2 to de-escalate civilians”. This makes you point your gun at innocent Mexican people to stop them from appropriately getting pissed at you for invading their home, but if you don’t do it, these normal people become rampaging animals hellbent on destroying you. I shouldn’t have to explain why this is ridiculous. I mean, look at this; it’s just sad.
I want to return to Call of Duty: Ghosts. The main crux of this game is that all of South America has joined forces to destroy America and the South Americans also stole America’s orbital missile weapon.
Two points
A: So, they can’t make their own weapons, can they?
B: ORBITAL FLIPPING MISSILE WEAPON This invasion is sounding more justified by the second.
Things like this, games that just reinforce that the CIA are cool dudes, and that America is really, really cool and popular. This lie that a sad majority of angry Americans saluting and making out with their AR16s are fed everyday has, in some ways, turned America into the bleeding hell pit it is today.
Why does COD keep on reinforcing American ideals? why…? It’s because of money, alright. It’s just money. Americans just love America. At this point, COD Black Ops is the highest-selling game in the series. This is the game where you play as a CIA operative literally fighting in the Bay of Pigs and trying to kill Fidel Castro. This is what the majority of people want to glorify the Bay of Pig’s invasion. It’s just pathetic to see how self-destructive and delusional America can be. If you never learn from your mistakes, you’re destined to repeat them.
Now knowing what we do about the US’s tendency to rewrite history, *cough* concentration camps for Japanese people *cough*, to their own means. I hope you think more about the implications of any game you’ve played.
Very good article I liked it
