Mortal Kombat 11 Review

Mortal Kombat 11 is the most recent Mortal Kombat game, and it has many surprises that make it a more interesting game. The graphics are more hyper-realistic, and the characters have different and more unique designs. This makes it one of the best Mortal Kombat games ever since Mortal Kombat X. There are new or returning characters like Noob Saibot. Some are even from different universes, like the Joker. The game was developed by ‘NetherRealm Studios’ and published by ‘Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’, making it like the other sequels but still a unique game.

Mortal Kombat 11 takes place after Shinnok’s defeat and you play as many Mortal Kombat characters, but you start off as Cassie Cage, daughter of Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage. After four or more fights, you move on to different chapters and different characters, you can sometimes choose between two characters which makes it a more interesting sequel. These characters fight other characters after a short or long cutscene. When victorious, you either move on to a new cutscene or a new chapter depending on where you are. You progress through the story until at the end, Fire God Liu Kang fights the main villain of the story, Kronika.

The graphics of the game stick out from other games, the hyper-realistic animation makes it seem like a movie made in real life. It is a big step up from the first Mortal Kombat made in 1992 where it was just pixelated videos of real people put in the game, but it was still good for its time. The shadows and lighting make it one of the best-animated video games. It shows how animation and CGI have evolved throughout the years.

The characters have various personalities and designs, some are evil, some are good, some are immature, and some are wise. Most of the characters are from previous Mortal Kombat games, like Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion. But there are new characters with unique powers. Cetrion is a new combatant and is capable of controlling water, life, air, and fire which makes her fairly unique compared to the other combatants. Geras is also a new character, his design is like Jax. Some of these new combatants are from other universes. These characters include Joker, Rambo, RoboCop, Terminator, and Spawn. These collaborative combatants are not part of the storyline, but some DLC characters are. There is also an unlockable character in Story Mode named Frost, she is earned by progressing through Story Mode in Chapter 4 along with other rewards.

Although the game has great animation and characters, some things could be improved. More moves could have been added and you cannot play as some characters part of the storyline like Cyrax, Sektor, nor Kronika. But even without them, this game is fun, and the gore makes it even better. The story is well written, and you can tell the developers put a lot of thought and effort into the game. The graphics and sound design are also award-deserving. This game receives a 9.5 out of 10 for hard effort on the graphics, story, and the game itself.
