Elden Ring: A Guide to Colossal Weapons/Swords.

Elden ring

Elden Ring, the highly anticipated action RPG developed by FromSoftware and released in 2022, offers a captivating souls-like experience. Within the vast world of Elden Ring, players are immersed in a plethora of weapons, ranging from scythes to staffs, presenting an expansive array of choices for the player.

Colossal Weapons and Swords are a type of heavy weapons characterized by their enormous stature. As the name suggests, these weapons are oversized, often surpassing the height of the player. While they are considerably heavy and swing at a slower pace compared to other swords, they offer several advantages such as an extended reach and tremendous damage potential. Wielding these weapons demand a significant amount of strength. In cases where the player’s strength falls slightly below the requirements, they can compensate by dual wielding, holding the weapon double handed, these weapons.

Finding these colossal weapons/swords can be quite challenging; however, I have prepared a list of my two favourite Colossal Weapons/Swords to assist you in your journey.

• Greatsword: This colossal sword lives up to its name, boasting an imposing size and inflicting devastating damage. Its long reach makes it ideal for effortlessly cleaving through multiple enemies at once

A coarse iron lump of an ultra greatsword. Mows down foes by utilizing its incredible weight.

Though handling it likely requires the wielder to have surpassed the realm of the merely human, it is precisely for this reason the weapon is used to slaughter even inhuman foes.

To acquire the Greatsword, venture to Caelid. (specifically Dragonbarrow) Head northwest of the Caelem Ruins Site of Grace until you come across a carriage guarded by Giant Dogs. Inside the chest of this carriage, you will find the Greatsword. Here is the location on the map:

• Giant-Crusher: This colossal weapon is perfect for dealing great physical damage, as this weapon primarily scales off strength, it requires a great amount to wield it.

A hammer made from a boulder, used in the War against the Giants. One of the heftiest weapons in the entire Lands Between. After the giants were quelled, and man turned against man in violence, this weapon was all but forgotten. Man has grown feeble in comparison to his forebears.

Location: This weapon can be found in the chest of a carriage directly to the south Outer Wall Phantom Tree site of grace. Here is the location on the map:

These weapons are compatible with Ashes of War, increasing the versatility and damage output of these weapons. My favourite Ashes of War to use with Colossal Weapons/Sword are:

  1. Bloodhound Step: Offers excellent mobility and invincibility frames at a low FP cost.
  2. Lions Claw: Deals massive stance damage and provides damage reduction during skill activation.
  3. Royals Knight Resolves: Buffs damage by 80% for a long duration.
  4. Hoarah Loux’s Earthshaker: Inflicts massive area-of-effect (AoE) damage.

Since these are just a few examples of the fantastic Ashes of War abilities, I implore you to explore the vast options of great Ashes that you can use.

Stance damage is a crucial element when using Colossal Weapons/Swords, as it elevates their effectiveness from great to fantastic. Stance is a hidden statistic exclusive to enemies, which determines their ability to withstand your attacks.

Every attack inflicts stance damage, although this statistic remains concealed from the player. It’s worth noting that an enemy’s health points (HP) and stance are not always directly related. Once an enemy’s stance is shattered, they become immobilized and vulnerable, presenting an opportune moment to hit a critical attack. A golden shimmer in an enemy’s eye marks the ideal time for a critical attack. Seize this opportunity to strike with a critical hit.

Colossal Weapons excel at dealing substantial stance damage, which complements their already impressive offensive capabilities. It’s this stance damage that truly sets these weapons apart. The combination of high damage, the ability to break an opponent’s stance and the slower attack speed creates a unique and enjoyable gameplay experience, while still maintaining the challenging aspect that defines the game itself. This synergy makes colossal weapons both entertaining and user-friendly while retaining the core difficulty of the game.

Elden Ring’s colossal weapons/swords are great, offering immense power and thrilling gameplay. From the Greatsword’s sweeping reach to the Giant-Crusher’s high damage output, these weapons, coupled with Ashes of War, deliver an exhilarating blend of challenge and reward. Breaking enemies’ stances for critical strikes showcases the game’s intricacies, making colossal weapons a standout feature in Elden Ring.
